What to do first

Deletion usually marks space as reusable. Whether the content remains recoverable depends heavily on later writes, so stop using the affected drive as soon as possible.

  • Pause downloads, extraction, synchronization, and large updates.
  • Do not install recovery software or save scan data on the affected drive.
  • If the file is still in the Recycle Bin, restore it there first.

Choose another drive or volume as the recovery destination so recovered data cannot overwrite files that have not been found yet.

Why recovery may fail

New data may have overwritten the original content, and SSD TRIM may make deleted blocks unavailable. A scan result is a candidate, not a guarantee that the whole file is intact.
