Emergency screen privacy
How can I quickly protect my screen when someone walks up to my PC?
Short answer
Use the fastest reliable action with the least impact: hide windows or lock Windows when you are at the keyboard; rely on a preconfigured device or camera trigger only after you have stepped away.
Choose by distance first
A shortcut is usually the quickest option while your hand is near the keyboard. Hide or minimize windows for brief visual cover; lock Windows if the other person may touch the PC.
Once you are away, it is too late to configure a trigger. USB removal, Bluetooth disconnect, and away detection should be set up and tried before an urgent moment.
- Brief visual cover: hide or minimize current windows
- Prevent further use: lock Windows
- Sensitive files: keep them in a locked vault as well
