What is the difference between a camera gesture and away detection?
Short answer
A gesture is an explicit command while you are in view. Away detection acts after continued absence and helps when you forget, but it needs more conservative timing.
Intentional signal versus automatic judgment
You choose the moment for a gesture, which often fits urgent situations better. Away detection reduces reliance on memory, but it sees only the camera state and cannot know whether you briefly turned, were occluded, or remain nearby.
Both camera features are disabled by default. After enabling one, check camera view, lighting, and timing. It is safer to bind automatic away detection to a low-impact action such as Windows lock.
